Number lines

For school today Hannah worked on subtraction using a number line, did some grammar, phonics (-shr sound), looked over her sight words and learned about thunder and lightning. Grace was reading the Declaration, working with positive and negative numbers, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and art rounded out her morning. Bethany was working with inequalities, doing History, grammar, writing and chemical reactions for Science. Since Hannah and Grace were working with number lines we played this BrainPop game and I finally found Casey runner again. After lunch we went outside to play Casey runner ‘for reals.’

I drew 2 number lines and gave the girls problems to walk out.

If I said minus you had to face toward the negative side (in our case left) and if I said plus you faced right. So -5 (you would stand there) plus (facing right) -4 = you walk backwards to -9. 4 (start there) minus (face left) 5 walk forward to -1.

Hannah and Grace had fun, learned a bit and Mr. Otter even got in on the fun.

After lunch we pulled out Tutencluck-hen and changed the salt.

I forgot to do it yesterday. The salt was very moist, we should be changing the mixture every 2 days.

Someone asked so: yes, it’s a real chicken, no I didn’t kill it, yes, it came from the store, no it did not come from a friends backyard (I don’t think they’d like that.)

We’re off to dance.

    Good morning,
My name is Abby and I help to run a website offering hundreds of free early years and KS1 teaching resources called Early Learning HQ (www.earlylearninghq.org.uk).

I can see that you are talking about number lines and I was wondering if you would have a little look at ours and see what you think. We have lots of different themes and they are all designed by me and a small team in Swansea, so it would be nice to share them with some more people! You can have a look at them here: http://www.earlylearninghq.org.uk /numeracy/ numberlines/.

If you like our stuff then perhaps you would consider linking to our page so other people can find it as well? If you would like me to make any other resources then please let me know and I’ll see what I can do :) .

    Many thanks,
    Abby
