Life’s healing choices

We started a new series at church today, we’re going through the book Life’s Healing Choices in small groups and in services. You can go here to get a free 40 day devotional based on the series. Today was admitting need. We had a heart audit, a list of things that might be eating at us like fears, worry, diet, anger, finances, relationships and more. The root cause of these things is playing God or my pride. These things are usually caused by thinking that we don’t need a higher power to intervene or that we can take care of everything by ourselves. God did not make Wonderwoman and Superman, those who think they can do it all, do it better and do it alone often end up in a pit of despair with life piling up all around. Being poor in spirit means that I am humbly aware of my sinfulness, that I am broken and that I need God’s help.

Matthew 5:3
(NIV)
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

We need to ask for God’s help and accept help from God’s people. We can remain stuck or ask for help to get out of the pit.

Matthew 5:3
The Message
3 “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule…8 You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.”

Beware of fears that Satan uses to keep you stuck:
The fear of my own emotions, the fear of what others might think and the fear that being honest is useless.

John 8:32
(NIV)
32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
