Morning hike

This is working out well, hike early in the morning, do school and then have fun. Of course, that is on the days when the fun stuff isn’t scheduled for the morning….like today. So far we’re up to 15 miles for the Summer hike-a-thon. Today we took crazy dog with us, she heard, ‘Maisy, blahblahblahblah, walk, blahblahblahblah, car’ and came running to get her leash on. At the park she was pulling in 50 different directions, what’s that?!
Bird, rabbit, squirrel, grass, water, duck, different grass, butterfly, Maisy was ecstatic.
We started by the Lee gulch and went south, nice views from here. I was checking out the river, it’s really low right now, we might not be able to swim in it this summer. But, the low water will make it easier to catch fish and frogs, so I guess that is a bonus. It looks awfully dry in spots and lush in others.
We walked through the woods and cooled off a bit. We were headed to the other end of the cut through area.
This is one of our swimming spots, it’s usually not so calm.
Grace’s leg started to hurt so we took a break, this is right before Maisy got in the water and turned into a skinny version of herself.
The plants were nice to wander past and smell.
A butterfly made us smile as it flitted from flower to flower and posed.
We came through the gate, walked a bit further and then turned around. I quizzed the girls to see if they knew which way we needed to walk to get back to the car – everyone but Hannah knew. I said always remember what side the river is on when you start, it should be on the opposite side when you start back; it was on our right, now it was on our left – good.
We let Maisy get in the water one more time, then we headed back to the car. That was a very good 2 mile walk, though it was getting a bit hot.
Back at home we did some school, read some books and gathered up books to return to 3 libraries after our dental appointments. We’ll be getting another round of books from our library this afternoon. I will get some too!
