Yesterday after NIA class and park day we went by the teacher supply store. I bought four bags of stuff and the total came to $3.82 – amazing. Anyway, one thing I like to look for there are old games (it’s a store that takes donations and odd bits of things, so they have old games, bits of tile, foam pieces, bottle caps and so much more.) Sometimes I use the pieces to make my own game or add to an existing game we have. I rummaged around and found this game, a phonics/spelling game.
The point of the game is to make words from your tiles after having pulled a piece out of the pile. It’s harder than it looks, I love the way they color coded the pieces – blends, consonants, vowels, diphthongs, etc. Hannah and I played a quick game before dinner. Another thing I found recently that is fun (and therefore learning in disguise) was a Mad libs for Hannah.
She can make silly sentences with the stickers they provided (there is no beach where you can collect sparkly squirrels, although Maisy would like to find such a place.) She doesn’t realize it, but by doing these she is learning grammar and reading, I love it!
Today Grace had her appointment with her lung doctor, I was holding my breath (Hah!) when they measured her height (she needed to have grown or he was going to mess with her meds) and…………….she grew 6 mm. Yay! Her spirometer test was outstanding, her highest yet for lung function. It appears that all is well, he said that having to put her on a short dose of Prednisone a few times a year without her ending up in the hospital was acceptable. Her lungs are at about 90% normal, which is as good as they will ever get unless she goes years without an episode, which hasn’t happened. Some people think that damaged lung tissue can’t come back, I think it can but it takes time, lots of time of being healthy overall and Grace just hasn’t had that. We also got a gel for her nosebleeds which should help immensely. Overall, it was a good visit (and we scored $600 of free meds – always ask for samples!)
We took Maisy to the dog park when we got home.
We were glad for the cooler weather to walk in and Maisy was happy to run free.
She’s doing much better as long as the other dogs don’t sniff her behind – she just can’t stand that. Maybe a few more visits and she’ll be playing with any dog that comes around her. We spied some pretty flowers on a thorny bush on the way home.
Today’s library adventure was a magic/puppet show.
Mr. Jim was very good, he had me shaking my head at his tricks and they weren’t new tricks, he was just very good at sleight of hand. His bunny puppet gave Hannah an idea.
She wants to get an old hat at the store and cut a hole in it, shove Mr. Otter in it and do a show with him. I think it’s a great idea. We picked up a few prizes too, a wallet and two backpacks. Next week the girls are doing fused glass jewelry at the library. I’m so glad I have kids, it would look very strange if I went to the library for these shows by myself (and when I no longer have kids? Hah! Grandkids will work just fine!)
Tonight we get rid of all three girls, they are going to a birthday sleepover. I know they’ll have fun, wonder what we’ll do here?
