We're a busy Homeschooling family of 6. We think every day needs to be an adventure - so wake up and get moving!

HOMEschooling doesn't mean you always have to be HOME!
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Emerson
In structure there is freedom.

Back to school

We had a pretty lazy break of a few weeks and today was back to school. I reorganized Hannah’s school stuff in the storage room so she could see one thing at a time on the shelf.

I pulled out a math activity for her – dice, touch cards and a calendar.

She would roll the dice, find the touch card and then find the number on the calendar. It was double dice, but she was only counting to six. Bethany was finishing up her unit on the Louisiana purchase and Andrew Jackson. Grace was doing 3-d shapes and one activity called for her to trace the blocks and find out how many congruent shapes were in a cube or pyramid, etc.

Hannah wanted to do it too.

Then we moved onto fractions,

I made some tenths fraction sticks out of popsicle sticks and hunted around for my pizza fractions (these were Anthony’s pizza postcards with a slice of pizza on them, I just cut out the slice.)

Then it was upstairs to do some reading, some Nate the Greats, some whale books (ok a lot of whale books) and a book about how vets use math.

A few moms from our HS group decided to meet at the park today so we went there for a few hours. We talked, the kids played and threw snowballs at each other. Then we gained a child on our way home for a playdate (I know, you’d think 3 hours at the park would be enough.)

A pretty good first day back.
