The Mellow Mushroom

Last night we headed to the Streets of Southglenn to wander around and eat. We walked past the Christmas decorations,

played by the changing lights,

saw the ice skaters, sat by the fireplace

and ran from Santa (we don’t ‘do’ Santa and we don’t encourage our kids to sit on stranger’s laps even when they entice them to do so with candy and treats!) Joel and his friend were walking around too while we waited for a table at the Mellow Mushroom.

Finally, we got to go inside. We ordered some honey cinnamon pretzels to sustain us before dinner, judging from the way they disappeared, they were pretty good. Our pizzas: a pepperoni, house and Thai dye arrived pretty quickly. The kids devoured the pepperoni, so I’d say it must have been good. The house pie was pretty tasty and had a good crust, but by far the best pizza there was the Thai dye (get it? Tie dye?) Maybe that was because I didn’t have to share….It was curry chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese and a garlic chili sauce all baked onto a wheat crust with parmesan encrusted on the top. Ohhhh, it was good. I’d say that their specialty pizzas probably taste better than normal ones. Listen to these concoctions: Magical mystery tour – pesto, button and Portobello mushrooms, spinach, feta and jalapeños. Philosopher – steak, Portobello, artichoke, kalamata olives, provolone, feta, mozzarella on a oil and garlic base. Funky Q chicken – BBQ chicken, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and bacon (ohhh, that one sounds good too!) They had a live band playing, a magical color changing mushroom above the tables and funky mushroom people climbing on the wall. (And as a bonus, Dyson dryers in the bathroom which Hannah loved.)

Back outside we walked to the car serenaded by Christmas music, colored lights and twinkling snowflakes.

There are more restaurants opening soon at the Streets, I can’t wait to try them out! So much free day, so little stomach.
