Our volunteer/story time/special reading time went well at the library. We now check out books only on Friday, which is great. I’d still like to tell the girls to only check out what we can carry, but I don’t think that is going to fly. We headed over to girl scouts where we made ornaments out of canning lids. This involved 2 of Hannah’s favorite things: glue and glitter. She was so happy and glitter was everywhere.

We ended early and headed over to yet another library (this would be the 3rd one that day if you’re keeping track!) Presentation club was at 3:30, a very light group today only 4 (and 3 of those were mine.) The girls took off for the kids section and I got to read a magazine! Then we gave our presentations.

Bethany did food (big shock there.) The theme was fantasy, Bethany’s food was fantasy because she made the recipes up.

She made banana surprise (bananas, whip cream and fudge.) She also talked about another recipe, celery with peanut butter swirl raisin spread with carrots on top. She likes peanut butter on carrots.

Hannah did so well, she was talking about Tinkerbell. She had on her Tinkerbell shirt, shoes, crown, skirt and backpack.

She said that Tinkerbell is a ‘wary’ who lives in the ‘worset’ and plays with her ’winds’. Yeah, unfortunately for her all the words started with ‘f’. Then she showed everyone her doll and a picture in a book and handed out coloring pages.

Too cute.

A was next, she had a story about a magical Thanksgiving turkey. In an effort not to be eaten by others he magically makes fully cooked turkeys appear to people who want to eat him.

She didn’t have any pictures this time, but she did write the story on a page with an outline of a turkey.

Grace came up and gave a report on Narwhals (they are in the fantasy theme because of their tooth and how people once thought they were related to unicorns.)

She said – The Narwhal lives in the arctic. The male has a tooth that can be up to 10 feet long. The Narwhal belongs to the white whale family. Narwhals have distinctive flukes that look like they are on upside down. Then we showed about how long 10 feet was and handed out a coloring page.

I gave Joel’s report (he was at home, I thought I wouldn’t have time to get him between girl scouts and here.) He said the most fantastical thing he ever heard was a Russian guy who had a tree growing in his lung.

The guy was complaining of chest pain, the docs took an x-ray and saw what appeared to be a tumor. They went in for surgery and pulled out a 2 inch fir tree. Apparently the guy had inhaled a seed and it sprouted, weird. I gave a presentation on the Mobius strip. Here is M.C. Escher’s picture of ants on a strip.

I showed the kids how it was really 1 sided compared to a 2 sided strip of paper. I read a really cool book about it called The Mobius strip by Clifford Pickover.

I really hope we get more kids for January’s club meeting, it’s much nicer when more people come.
