We're a busy Homeschooling family of 6. We think every day needs to be an adventure - so wake up and get moving!

HOMEschooling doesn't mean you always have to be HOME!
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Emerson
In structure there is freedom.

The Colorado Adventure

Friday

I need to come up with better titles. After the library we went to girl scouts. We were working on the 2nd half of the World neighbors badge. We played Mek Kouk a game from Korea. Each player gets 30 beans and 1 person is the challenger. That person takes however many beans he wants (in secret) and places them in his hand. Then he goes to the 1st person and has them point to a hand. If the person guesses correctly they win the beans, if they don’t the challenger gets that number of beans from their bag. The girls were being very conservative losing or winning only 2 or 3 beans at a time. Hannah thought it was fun to win, but the first time she lost she sat down, cried and quit playing. We looked at books of houses, shoes, clothing around the world and found Korea on the globe.

Then we played a game from Denmark called ‘The ocean is stormy’. You sit in a circle on chairs (like musical chairs there is 1 chair less than players.) One person is in the middle and is the whale (guess who that was, if you said Grace – you’re right!) The whale walks around the circle calling out fish names (the other players are supposed to have chosen to be a kind of fish), when everyone is up the whale calls ‘the ocean is stormy’ and everyone tries to find a seat. The person left standing is the new whale. Again Hannah liked this game until she was left standing. After a few rounds we made a circle and Bethany and I tried to show the friendship (or grapevine) dance we learned at dance. It’s a folk dance from Israel. I think everyone did well, despite the small space we were in.

Finally, we ended up making Christmas trees for the Salvation Army (which fit in nicely with the badge.) We’re not sure what they are doing with them, maybe putting them by the bell ringers? The girls always have fun doing crafts, so it was a hit. We listened to world music while decorating the trees too. Hannah likes lots of glue.

We collected food for the food pantry, winter items for our coat drive and stuff to fill 2 backpacks for inner city kids (that one is a project another troop is working on, we just decided to help by filling 2 backpacks.)

A very good meeting, we got a lot done and collected a lot of stuff we needed.

Tonight it’s fondue night at church, women only (I’m not sure men ever want to dip stuff in chocolate and cheese while playing games anyway.)
