Yee-Haw!

It’s amazing the amount of fun you can have with a fake moustache.

Yep, today was my cowboy co-op. We had hats, bandannas, sheriff stars and of course, fake moustaches.

We read the book Crybaby cowboy and learned about brands. We studied some different ways to make a brand and then got to cutting one out of a potato.

We had a few that really got into it (rocking H) and made some great stamps, I mean brands.

Next we sat down by the fake fire and I passed around the dish of beans (jelly ones) and beans (Reeses pieces), cowboys love beans!

We talked about what kinds of food cowboys might like to eat and then we read Jalapeño Hal. After that we talked about cowboy lingo. We learned that grub and chow are the same thing and that cookie makes your chuck in the wagon. Rustlers are bad, but wrangler are good, and a buckaroo might try riding a bronc and get in a wreck. Then we got on our stick ponies and did a barrel run in and out of coffee cans.

I had a rope for lassoing, but it curled up a bit, so it was really hard to lasso anything.

We tried to do some cowboy poetry, but nobody was interested, so we played musical chairs to western music instead. One thing different was that you couldn’t sit on a chair with a bandanna on it. As the bandannas piled onto empty chairs, the competition got rough.

I think I was laughing so hard that H actually didn’t hear me cut off the music, oh well, it was all good fun. We did a dance to ‘Buffalo gals’ there’s a funny verse at the end where you have ‘a hole in your stocking, knees keep a knocking and toes keep a rocking’, so we were wiggling around. The last book was Armadillo Rodeo, which was a cute book about an armadillo who falls in love with bright red boots.

We put the music back on and cleaned up, I made sure everyone got their cowboy gear and potatoes. Wanna see a bit of the book I used? Go here to see the pages we did about branding, lingo and more. Oh, and fake moustaches are the bomb!
