A friend met us at the nature center today for my fishing/swimming co-op. I hadn’t thought about all this afternoon rain we’ve been getting and how it would affect the river. The spot where I wanted to swim was way too high and had some rapids, so we left Joel fishing and went upstream to another spot. I bought a tub of nightcrawlers for bait and let the girls have some to play with. Grace had one as long as her arm! Hannah was (I thought) closely looking at hers, but it turns out she was actually licking it. Yeah, I know, knowing Hannah I should have watched her with the worm – but I didn’t think she was going to lick it (I KNOW, I should have guessed that she was going to put it in or near her mouth.)

We had our own little pool to swim in that was away from the current. I caught a bunch of fry, I think they were trout, but they didn’t like being in our container. They were dying within a few minutes. Then I caught a teeny tiny tadpole (he made it home.) Joel gave up and didn’t want to wait for us, so he took the bus home.

We played in the sand, swam around, caught fish, tried to catch fish and had fun in the sun.

There were damselflies, dragonflies and bees buzzing around and the cottonwood was thick on the ground and in the air. We saw some tubers and rafters floating by a couple of times. I was so glad that we didn’t get our typical afternoon thunderstorm today, I think we’ll get lucky on Thursday too (swimming again.)

That was fun, we want to go to our secret swimming spot next time (it never gets deeper than our knees.)

This is an example of the factoring trinomials that Joel was working on this morning. I never thought this was fun when I was 14……
