Friday
This morning we walked down to the tennis courts to play real tennis (vs. Wii tennis, which is great but nothing beats chasing after a real ball.) We stopped by a garage sale on the way there and picked up a $10 dog house for Maisy and a $3 push trike for Hannah. They had free toys there too so each of the kids got some stuff that I will eventually throw away (who needs Indiana Jones crystal skull toys, a broken motorcycle and a dinosaur with no skin that roars?)
Joel and Grandma played some one on one while I helped Bethany.
Then we played against Joel and Grandma. Joel, I swear, was aiming right at Bethany and after getting hit with the ball twice she gave up. Then we played 2 on one against me, in which I was chasing after a lot of balls. Grace was the official ball-picker-upper and Hannah was playing with her dead dinosaur.
I threw some balls at Hannah’s racket and she did actually hit the ball.
We watched some real players and rested in the shade, and then Grandma and Bethany played some one on one to practice.
James came by to pick us up so he and Joel could go to Buckley and get some stuff on his camp list.
Back at home the girls and I made banana bread and then s’mores in the oven.
We watched TV and napped and waited on Joel to get back. After a long time they came back with their booty. White shirts, black socks, white socks, black shirts, dress blue shirts and boy necessities that he probably doesn’t want me to mention here. I started marking things and packing them while Joel went and tried on his blues uniform.
By the end of the week for graduation that uniform is going to fit a lot better and look sharper. My theory is if we do a whole bunch of stuff to cry at now (like dance recitals and CAP graduation) we’ll cry less at their weddings; that’s my theory anyway.
We were going to go swimming or watch a movie, but time just flew by too quickly. Even with staying home most of the day Monday and Tues. to play Wii, read and watch TV, our week with Grandma went by way too fast. I really wish our car hadn’t been wrecked during the visit, but no one was hurt (and as to the blow-out the day before can you say ‘God’s provision’? If the tire hadn’t blown out that day, it might have blown out during the accident causing us to swerve or even spin-out and get in a head-on crash…..something to think about.) Anyway we went to bed kind of early because we had to have Joel at the AFA between 9-11:30 the next morning.
Lady bugs are growing and turning red.
