Sunday
We picked up James at the airport and started cleaning and getting stuff ready for my Mom. We had to be back at the airport at 3 and we just made it. We ate breakfast at Mcd’s and James gave the kids an impromptu science lesson up in the play land (not about how filthy they are.) There was a set of gears to play with and James sat them down and showed them how the gears fit together so that when you move one they all move. He had Bethany and Joel put their fingers on separate gears and follow the teeth to see how many rotations the smaller gear made versus the bigger gear. They talked about radius, diameter, friction and dissipation of energy. It was pretty cool. After that we went home and Joel mowed while James went to find a mattress. We usually just get a blow up mattress in the study for guests, but they’ve all popped. So James bought a real mattress and box springs and a foam topper thing. We rearranged the study and bought 2 nightstands and a lamp too, it looks very nice in there. The girls put together a little box with soap, lotion and bath stuff, a vase of flowers on the nightstand and some candles. My vacuum cleaner’s belt broke while I was cleaning Joel’s room so nothing else got vacuumed (yes, I know it’s brand new. I forget that the brush keeps rolling while you use the hose and it sucked up a towel; it didn’t like that!) But I’ll get a new belt and do it tomorrow.
We picked up my mom at the airport just as she reached the fountain. We had a snack at BK and then headed home. She had 6 people trying to talk to her at once in the car. Back at home she had 4 kids pulling her all over the house (see my room - no, see mine.) She met Maisy and Maisy was so scared she peed on the floor (she was better later.) After touring the rooms she watched the girls hula in their room and played the wii with the kids. After dinner we took Maisy over to Marcy Park for a walk.
Maisy loves to dig in the mulch there. I’m not sure what she smells, but when we go she goes crazy.
The girls got to swing and play and then we went home.
Tomorrow I have to go get a tetanus shot because of my hand and finger. The hammer wasn’t rusty, but I also got a bad scratch from a nail that was on the floor behind my toilet. I figure that nail was probably rusty and nasty, so better to get the shot than get lock-jaw (I like to talk.) We have plans this week for swimming, Amazing Jakes, Longmont, park day, library, co-op and more. We’ll wear out Grandma and then send her home so she can recuperate!
