Fish store

We went to Neptune’s fish store for a co-op today.

We saw fresh water fish and salt-water fish.

We saw crawfish and snails and starfish.

We learned about invertebrates and fry, eggs and stingers. (And we learned that fish are always hungry in a fish store!) The girls got to touch a chocolate chip starfish and a brittle starfish.

We asked questions like: Which has more oxygen, warm water or cold? (Cold water has more oxygen.) Do fish lay eggs or give live birth? (Both.) Why do cleaner shrimp have white antennae? (It’s like a flag to passing fish that they will clean them.) Can you put more fish in a tall tank or a wide tank? (A wide tank.)

Here are some fresh water fish.

Here are some clown fish (yes, they’re real, but they look weird in the pic.)

Here is some coral.

Here is a blue crawfish (reminds me of the one Joel used to have as a pet.)

Here is a fire shrimp.

Here is some toad tower coral and here is a little blue fish hiding in the coral.

Here is another blue fish that was very bright.

After our tour the co-op leader gave us some crafts to take home (fish, of course.) We’ll be doing them this afternoon because we’re not camping till tomorrow (because it’s raining outside and our tent would be under a tree that would be very wet.)
